Castillo de Monteagudo de las Vicarías
Monteagudo de las Vicarías, Spain, Spain
Castillo de Monteagudo de las Vicarías is a Gothic-Renaissance castle-palace from the 15th-16th centuries in the village of Monteagudo de las Vicarías, Soria province, Spain, built by the Hurtado de Mendoza family within the town's complete medieval walls.
Its pentagonal layout features towers of varied shapes—a circular one to the west, rectangular to the south, and taller hexagonal/octagonal to the east—linked by a patrol path topped with battlements, Gothic arched doors protected by machicolations, and a Renaissance interior courtyard with porticos and Plateresque plasterwork.
Protected since 1949, recent restorations have preserved its almenas and galleries; a passage once connected it to the adjacent church, highlighting its role in the fortified hilltop settlement.
