Castillo de Morón
Morón de la Frontera, Spain, Spain
Castillo de Morón de la Frontera is a medieval fortress crowning a 300-meter hill in the center of Morón de la Frontera, Seville province, Andalusia, Spain, with origins tracing to the 11th-12th century Muslim era over earlier Roman and Visigothic remains.
Transformed into a palace-fortress by the Dukes of Osuna in the 15th-16th centuries after Christian conquest by Fernando III, it features the prominent Torre Gorda (Fat Tower or Keep), renovated by the Order of Alcántara around 1528, along with ruined towers and walls that once dominated the strategic Sierra Sur frontier.
Declared an Asset of Cultural Interest, these weathered ruins offer panoramic views and embody centuries of occupation from prehistoric times through military repopulation under Sancho IV.
