Castillo de Mucientes (restos)
Mucientes, Spain, Spain
Castillo de Mucientes consists of the ruins of a 14th-century palace-castle atop a hill overlooking the Valladolid village of the same name in Spain, first documented in 1326 when King Alfonso XI granted it to his steward Álvar Núñez Osorio.
Used as a noble residence by the Counts of Ribadavia until the 17th century, it hosted royal visits including Queen Joanna I in 1506 during the Cortes of Mucientes and was seized by Comunero rebels under Padilla in 1521.
Archaeological digs since 2006 uncovered wall bases, the keep tower, courtyard paving, and columns, though the site remains unprotected, overgrown, and threatened after centuries of looting for building materials.
