Castillo De Nogarejas
Spain, Spain
The Castillo de Nogarejas is a ruined medieval military fortress in the village of Nogarejas, part of Castrocontrigo municipality in León province, Spain, perched atop a rocky hilltop overlooking the Valle de Eria.
Likely built around the 11th century using primitive stone masonry with lime mortar and brick reinforcements, it served as a defensive outpost against Muslim incursions from the south, featuring a central tower amid mostly collapsed walls, a pointed-arch entrance, narrow windows, and a rock-hewn cistern at its base.
Recognized as a Site of Cultural Interest (BIC) since the 1980s and an archaeological zone, little is documented of its history beyond medieval records referencing its remnants.
