Castillo de Orihuela, also known as the Castillo-Alcazaba de Orihuela, is a medieval fortress and alcazaba situated on Monte de San Miguel overlooking the historic town of Orihuela in Alicante province, Valencian Community, Spain.
Dating back to before the Caliphate era with Arab origins, it controlled strategic Vega Baja del Segura routes and agriculture, featuring an upper alcazaba for command, defensive albacar enclosures, towers linked to town walls extending to the Segura River, and underwent modifications through the Reconquista until its destruction in 1709 during the War of Spanish Succession.
Now protected ruins as a Site of Cultural Interest, the site rewards hikers with sweeping panoramic views of orchards, the city, and distant landscapes, praised historically as one of Spain's strongest castles.
