Castillo de Osma
Spain, Spain
Castillo de Osma is a medieval fortress ruin atop a rocky hill near El Burgo de Osma in Soria province, Spain, with Muslim origins around the 10th century as a strategic border watchtower during the Reconquista, later passing to Christian control in 1011 under King García Íñiguez of León.
Featuring three irregular walled enclosures adapted to the terrain—including a well-preserved inner enclosure with high walls, access gate reminiscent of Gormaz Castle's horseshoe arch, two eastern towers (one a keep), and a prominent Water Tower by the Ucero River—it endured repeated sieges amid Duero frontier conflicts.
Most structures were dismantled over time for local building materials, leaving evocative remnants that offer panoramic views and document early border defense history near Roman Uxama and the Gothic cathedral.
