Castillo de Puertomingalvo
Puertomingalvo, Spain, Spain
Castillo de Puertomingalvo is a medieval fortress of Muslim origin from the 12th century, perched atop a rocky spur overlooking the village of Puertomingalvo in Teruel province, Aragon, Spain.
Reconquered by Alfonso II in 1181 and entrusted to the Templars before being donated by the Bishop of Zaragoza to King Pedro II in 1202, it features a unique pentagonal design within a vast walled enclosure called Andevilla that once protected the entire town.
Expanded in later centuries with Gothic elements like the Portal Alto and Portal Bajo gates, the castle endured periods of abandonment, even serving as a cemetery in the 16th century, but has been restored and now functions as a museum amid the scenic Maestrazgo region.
