Castillo de Rueda de la Sierra
Rueda de la Sierra, Spain, Spain
Castillo de Rueda de la Sierra, located on a hilltop above the village of the same name in Guadalajara province, Castilla-La Mancha, Spain, dates to the 12th century as a modest medieval watchtower from the Reconquista era, anchoring a small settlement at its base.
By the late 16th century, chronicler Francisco Núñez described it as reduced to wide foundations after decay, with the site witnessing nearby 1468 clashes during disputes over Molina's lordship between Beltrán de la Cueva and local defenders.
Today, scant ruins persist in the "El Castillo" area, including a square-based tower possibly repurposed as a dovecote atop Iron Age remnants, its mampostería walls with sillar corners marking a vanished frontier outpost.
