Castillo de Salas
Salas, Spain, Spain
Castillo de Salas, also known as Torre de la Villa, is a medieval square tower dating back to the 14th century in the town of Salas, Asturias, northern Spain, first documented in 1124 and later rebuilt mid-20th century.
Linked by a heraldic bridge to the adjacent 16th-century Palacio de Valdés Salas, it features four floors including dungeons, barrel vaults, a spiral staircase, battlements, corner cylinders, arrow slits, and a machicolation over the former moat gate for defense.
Birthplace of Fernando de Valdés Salas—who founded the University of Oviedo—it now houses the Pre-Romanesque Museum of San Martín displaying 10th-century Asturian artifacts amid the Primitive Way pilgrimage route.
