Castillo de San Silvestre
Spain, Spain
The Castillo de San Silvestre is a 15th-century medieval fortress located in the town of Maqueda, Toledo province, Castilla-La Mancha, Spain, constructed by the Cárdenas family of the Order of Santiago on the site of an earlier Arab structure.
Known for its robust rectangular layout with thick 3.5-meter walls, three circular towers, protective moats, and crenellated battlements similar to nearby castles like Castillo de la Vela, it served primarily as a noble residence rather than a frontline defense during the late Reconquista.
Abandoned after the family relocated to Torrijos and later repurposed as a Civil Guard barracks, the ruins today stand as a protected cultural heritage site offering historical views over the surrounding plains.
