Castillo de Soria
Soria, Spain, Spain
Castillo de Soria is a 12th-century medieval fortress atop a strategic hill in the city of Soria, Spain, overlooking the Douro River, with origins possibly in a 9th-century Muslim watchtower expanded by Alfonso I of Aragon after 1119.
It features a trapezoidal enclosure with thick masonry walls, corner towers, a prominent rectangular keep tower, and remnants integrated into the city's extensive 4.1 km defensive wall system built by Alfonso VII and Sancho IV.
Once a key border stronghold amid Reconquista conflicts and later civil wars, its ruins now form part of the scenic Castle Park, offering panoramic views and symbolizing Soria's turbulent history.
