Castillo de Tebra
Spain, Spain
Castillo de Tebra is a late 15th-century fortified tower complex located in Santa María de Tebra, within the municipality of Tomiño in Galicia's Pontevedra province, Spain, near the Portuguese border.
Originally constructed in 1478 by Pedro Madruga (Pedro Álvarez de Soutomaior) as a strategic stronghold amid his power struggles with the Catholic Monarchs, it was demolished by royal order in 1482 but rebuilt around 1532 by Álvaro Suárez de Deza under authorization from Queen Juana I, featuring robust granite walls and defensive adaptations typical of Galician frontier architecture.
Passed among noble lineages during turbulent feudal conflicts including the Irmandiño revolts, the well-preserved ruins now form part of a restored historical site and boutique hotel overlooking rural landscapes, symbolizing the region's medieval border defenses.
