Castillo de Torresaviñán
Spain, Spain
The Castillo de Torresaviñán, also known as the Castillo de San Juan or Castillo de la Luna, is a 12th-century Romanesque fortress atop a prominent hill in La Torresaviñán village, Guadalajara province, Castilla-La Mancha, Spain.
Built by Don Manrique de Lara, lord of Molina, over an earlier Muslim tower to defend against raids from nearby Arab strongholds like Algora, it features a compact square layout with four corner towers—the 15-meter western one still standing—double moats, and thick walls enclosing about 100 square meters, later reinforced in the 14th century.
Damaged by cannon fire during the 18th-century War of Spanish Succession, its ruins remain in progressive decay despite BIC protection status, offering sweeping views of surrounding plains and serving as a local hiking landmark.
