Castillo de Torrestrella
Spain, Spain
Castillo de Torrestrella is a 13th-century Mudéjar-style fortress located within the private finca Los Alburejos near Medina-Sidonia in Cádiz province, Andalusia, Spain. Originally an Arab stronghold for controlling routes from Gibraltar to Seville, it was ceded by Alfonso X to the Order of Santa María de España—whose star emblem inspired its name—and later served as a conventual seat before sheltering 18th-19th century bandoleros. Featuring an elongated plan on rocky foundations, a central patio, and a prominent Torre del Homenaje with vaída vaults and lobed horseshoe arch window, it stands protected as a Bien de Interés Cultural monument.
