Castillo de Valderrobres
Valderrobres, Spain, Spain
Castillo de Valderrobres is a magnificent Gothic palace-castle overlooking the town of Valderrobres in Teruel province, Aragon, Spain, more residential than defensive in character.
Originating from a 12th-century Muslim watchtower reconquered by Alfonso II around 1175 and granted to the Bishop of Zaragoza, it was transformed in the late 14th century by Archbishop García Fernández de Heredia into a grand episcopal residence with an irregular polygonal layout, robust limestone walls, large Gothic windows, a central patio, and preserved rooms like the Sala de las Cortes.
Linked to the adjacent Gothic church via a historic passage, this well-restored architectural gem now serves as a museum, captivating visitors with its elegant stonework and panoramic Matarraña valley views.
