Castillo de Valfermoso de Tajuña (Ruinas)
Valfermoso de Tajuña, Spain, Spain
The Castillo de Valfermoso de Tajuña consists of 15th-century ruins overlooking the village of Valfermoso de Tajuña in Guadalajara province, Castilla-La Mancha, Spain, built by Pedro Laso de Mendoza on a hilltop similar in design to nearby Torija Castle.
Originally a defensive stronghold with a square layout, grand tower of homage featuring four floors and ribbed vaults, corner turrets, and encircling walls adapted for artillery, it stored Mendoza weapons for the Granada conquest before transitioning to non-military use.
Today, only partial tower walls, turret bases, structural remnants, and a standout 16th-century Arabic-origin cistern—recently restored as a museum—survive near the cemetery, testifying to its noble heritage amid the Tajuña valley plains.
