Castillo de Villagarcia de Campos
Villagarcía de Campos, Spain, Spain
Castillo de Villagarcía de Campos is a 12th-13th century fortress-palace in Villagarcía de Campos, Valladolid province, Castilla y León, Spain, built along the Sequillo River as a Castile-León border stronghold.
Reformed by the Quijada family in the 14th-16th centuries, it famously served as the childhood home of Don Juan de Austria—raised incognito as Jeromín—from 1554 until summoned by Philip II, featuring a square layout with corner towers, double murallas, a moat with drawbridge, and later palatial interiors.
Damaged by French forces in 1810 and partially reconstructed since 2014, its ruins complement the nearby Colegiata de San Luis, highlighting the town's noble heritage amid Tierra de Campos plains.
