Castillo de Villavelid (s. XV)
Villavellid, Spain, Spain
Castillo de Villavellid is a 15th-century fortress following the Valladolid school architectural style, located in the small village of Villavellid, Valladolid province, Castilla y León, Spain, on a low hill marking the historic Castile-León border.
Built as a casa fuerte by nobles like Francisco de Almazán, marqués de Alcañices, it passed through lineages including the Pimentel and Enríquez families via marriages, featuring a square plan with thick ashlar walls hiding rubble masonry, three cylindrical corner towers, and a squat square homage tower now partially collapsed.
Protected as a Bien de Interés Cultural since 1949, its ruins remain visitable amid the depopulated plains, evoking medieval frontier disputes.
