Castillo de Yanguas
Yanguas, Spain, Spain
Castillo de Yanguas is a 14th-century medieval fortress in the village of Yanguas, Soria province, Spain, constructed using traditional Muslim rammed earth techniques on a naturally defended spur between streams and the Cidacos River.
Originally owned by nobles like Pedro and Diego de Jiménez—descendants of Navarrese kings—it later passed to Juan Ramírez de Arellano and the Counts of Aguilar, featuring a near-square enclosure with four corner towers, one serving as the keep.
Strategically vital during the Middle Ages for controlling river access to the Ebro basin, it was burned in the Peninsular War, suffered recent thefts of heraldic shields, and has undergone consolidation since 2001 while retaining its historical prominence amid the town's ancient walls and landmarks.
