Castillo del Asmesnal (en ruinas)
Spain, Spain
Castillo del Asmesnal is a Gothic-style fortress in ruins located in the dehesa of the same name, within the municipality of Alfaraz de Sayago in Zamora province, Castilla y León, Spain, near the ZA-305 road between Peñausende and Ledesma.
Dating primarily to the 15th century with possible 13th-century origins as Castillo de Almeslal, it played a key defensive role in wars against Portugal and the Kingdom of León's frontier conflicts, featuring a central tower of homage, four corner towers, and protective walls now mostly collapsed.
Privately owned and on the Lista Roja del Patrimonio since 2008, the site attracts history enthusiasts for its scenic isolation, stork nests, and remnants evoking Sayago's medieval strategic landscape.
