Castillo del Conde Don Julián
Spain, Spain
Castillo del Conde Don Julián, also called Castillo de San Julián, is a historic fort in Cartagena, Spain, perched on Monte de San Julián to guard the harbor entrance.
It incorporates a cylindrical tower built by the British in 1706 during the War of the Spanish Succession, with the Spanish expanding it into a full bastioned fortress from the 18th century until completion in 1883. Used as a military prison in the Spanish Civil War, the neoclassical structure remains largely intact but dilapidated today, owned by Telefónica with antennas installed, and listed as a cultural asset.
