Castillo Templario de Alcañices (Torreón del Reloj)
Alcañices, Spain, Spain
Castillo Templario de Alcañices, known as Torre del Reloj, is a surviving 11th-13th century tower from the town's original Templar castle and walls in Alcañices, Zamora province, Castilla y León, Spain.
Granted to the Order of the Temple by Alfonso IX of León in 1211, it formed part of a fortress built around 1210 that celebrated major victories until the Order's dissolution, later integrated into a palace by the Marquises of Alcañices.
Today, only masonry towers like this prominent clock tower remain amid ruins, evoking the frontier town's Reconquista role, Portuguese wars, and pilgrim heritage near Santiago routes.
