Castillo Templario de Peñafiel
Spain, Spain
Castillo Templario de Peñafiel is a medieval fortress overlooking the town of Peñafiel in Valladolid province, Castilla y León, Spain, with origins in the 10th century as a frontier outpost during the Reconquista.
Initially built by Sancho García after conquering the site from Almanzor in 1013 and later rebuilt in the 14th century by Infante Juan Manuel, it passed to the Order of Calatrava under Pedro Téllez Girón in 1456, gaining its elongated ship-like Gothic form with a prominent Torre del Homenaje.
Today, the restored structure houses the Provincial Wine Museum, symbolizing the Ribera del Duero region's enotourism legacy amid panoramic Duero River valley views.
