Castle Bañeres
Banyeres de Mariola, Spain, Spain
Castle Bañeres, also known as the Castle of Banyeres de Mariola, is a 13th-century Almohad fortress crowning the Tossal de l'Àguila hill at 830 meters above sea level in Banyeres de Mariola, Alicante province, Valencian Community, Spain.
First documented in 1249 when James I granted it to nobleman Jaufrido de Loaysa, the irregularly shaped structure features two enclosures, a prominent 17-meter square tower of rammed earth, defensive walls, a cistern, and a chapel, later adapted by Christians during the Reconquista.
Now housing the Museu Fester with exhibits on the town's Moors and Christians festivals, it offers panoramic mountain views amid almond groves and preserves the medieval heritage of this textile town in the Alcoià comarca.
