Castle Blatná, located in the South Bohemian town of Blatná in Czechia, is one of the country’s best-preserved water castles with a history dating back to 1235.

Originally a fortified stronghold built by Vyšemír of the noble Bavors of Strakonice, it evolved architecturally from Romanesque origins to Gothic, Renaissance, Baroque, and finally Neo-Gothic styles through successive renovations. The castle is situated on a rocky promontory surrounded by water, creating a distinctive floating appearance.

Notable historic figures such as Jaroslav Lev of Rožmitál contributed Gothic enhancements including frescoes and an entrance tower, reflecting cultural influences from his diplomatic travels across Europe. The castle went through ownership changes, most recently belonging to the Hildprandt family who regained it after the communist regime and have since maintained it.

The castle complex includes palaces, a Romanesque chapel, and extensive landscaped gardens adjacent to natural marshlands. It stands as a significant monument exemplifying Central European noble history and architectural evolution over centuries and remains open to visitors today.
