Castle Brandenburg in Ushakovo, Kaliningrad Oblast, Russia, was founded in 1266 by the Teutonic Knights as a stone fortress honoring Margrave Otto III of Brandenburg, who supported their Prussian Crusade, strategically positioned near the Vistula Lagoon's mouth for trade and defense control.

Rebuilt in stone after early wooden versions burned during Prussian uprisings (1267-1269), it became the center of a major commandery until 1499, housing relics like a fragment of the True Cross from 1322 and enduring sieges including a 1454 Prussian Confederation assault that heavily damaged it before 1456 restoration.

Transitioning through Polish fiefdom, Ducal Prussia, and Kingdom of Prussia phases post-Thirteen Years' War and secularization, it decayed after WWII destruction and Soviet repurposing, leaving Gothic brick ruins of walls, towers, and chapel fragments now under cultural heritage protection with ongoing clearance efforts.
