Syzranskiy Kreml', the only surviving kremlin in Samara Oblast, Russia, was constructed starting in 1683 on Kremlin Hill in Syzran at the confluence of the Volga, Syzran'ka, and Krymza rivers under orders from Tsars Ivan and Peter Alekseyevich, supervised by voivode Grigory Kozlovsky. This wooden fortress with four wooden towers and one stone Spasskaya Tower (later incorporating a Savior Church) rapidly defended Russia's southeastern borders against nomadic raids, seeing combat only once during Pugachev's Rebellion in 1773-1774. Today, the well-preserved 27-meter Spasskaya Tower serves as a museum showcasing 17th-century military architecture, construction techniques, and regional history amid panoramic views.
