Castle Bučovice
Bučovice, Czechia, Czech Republic (Czechia)
Castle Bučovice is a stunning Renaissance chateau in the town of Bučovice, South Moravia, Czechia, constructed from 1567 to 1585 on the site of a former stronghold by Jan Šembera Černohorský of Boskovice, inspired by Italian palazzo designs.
Completed in the 1630s by his son-in-law Maximilian of Liechtenstein, it boasts a unique four-wing layout with a magnificent arcade courtyard featuring 90 columns adorned with 540 reliefs of coats of arms, war motifs, and mythical creatures surrounding a Mannerist fountain.
Surviving Swedish looting during the Thirty Years' War, its opulent interiors showcase Mannerist stucco work, murals like the whimsical Hare Hall ceiling, and a chapel with religious scenes, now a state-owned national cultural monument open to visitors near Vyškov.
