Castle Davis, more commonly known as Davis’s Castle, is a historic building near Grenagh in County Cork, Ireland. Originally dating from around the late 17th or early 18th century, it is believed to have evolved from an earlier fortified house or tower house and was modified several times over the centuries to suit changing residential needs. Although called a castle, the structure is better described as a historic fortified residence. Architectural features such as very thick walls, arched internal doorways, and evidence of former extensions suggest a long and complex history. The property is associated with the Davis family, including Dean Rowland Davis in the 1690s and James Davis in the 19th century, and it later served as a Royal Irish Constabulary barracks. Today, Davis’s Castle is recognized as a site of regional historical and architectural importance. While it is not one of Ireland’s major tourist castles, it remains an interesting example of how older defensive buildings were adapted into country homes over time.
