Castle Lachar
Láchar, Spain, Spain
Castillo de Láchar is a 19th-century neo-Arabic palace in Láchar, Granada province, Spain, built atop a 14th-century Nasrid watchtower originally on royal family lands that passed to the Cañaveral family after the 1492 Reconquista. Expanded over centuries by the Counts of Benalúa, Duke Julio Quesada-Cañaveral commissioned its romantic reconstruction around 1885 in lavish arabesque style with tiles, plasterwork, Nasrid capitals, and opulent salons hosting King Alfonso XIII. Declared a Bien de Interés Cultural in 1985 and acquired by the town hall in 2016 after private ownership, it now offers guided tours of its 1,750-square-meter interior blending Moorish remnants with Victorian-era grandeur.
