Castle Manzaneque
Manzaneque, Spain, Spain
The Castillo de Manzaneque is a compact 15th-century Gothic fortress prominently situated at the heart of Manzaneque village in Toledo province, Castilla-La Mancha, Spain.
Constructed by Don Iñigo de Ávalos, it later belonged to Don Álvarez de Toledo, secretary to the Catholic Monarchs, and subsequently the counts of Cedillo, evolving from a defensive tower keep into a noble residence with a square layout, tall robust body, protective round turrets flanking a pointed-arch gateway, and lower basements historically used as prisons.
Abandoned and ruined until early 20th-century restoration, it now serves as the town hall, offering a vivid glimpse of late medieval castle-town dynamics amid the plains, with interior visits available by prior appointment.
