Castle Niebla or Guzmanes
Niebla, Spain, Spain
Castle Niebla, also known as Castillo de los Guzmanes, is a 15th-century fortress in Niebla, Huelva province, Spain, built by Enrique de Guzmán, Duke of Medina Sidonia, on the site of an earlier Islamic alcázar with Roman and Visigothic origins. Its square layout features two large interior patios surrounded by eight square towers and a prominent Torre del Homenaje keep in the northeast corner, constructed from durable stone using sillarejo masonry with sillar corner reinforcements. Severely damaged by the 1755 Lisbon earthquake and French troops during the Peninsular War, the restored monument now hosts cultural events like Niebla's summer theater festival within the town's historic walled enclosure.
