Castle of Miranda de Ebro
Miranda de Ebro, Spain, Spain
Castle of Miranda de Ebro is a 15th-century medieval fortress crowning Picota Hill in Miranda de Ebro, Burgos province, Spain.
Initiated in 1358 when Tello of Castile sought land atop the former Santa María church site, construction began in 1449 under Pedro Sarmiento and finished in 1485 by master mason Juan Guas, forming a trapezoidal plan with four or five vertices, ashlar walls, a barbican entrance, western moat, and batteries like King's and Queen's.
Now in ruins with mainly the north wall visible amid overgrown sections including a circular southwestern tower, it was partially dismantled in 1903 for urban projects, preserving its role overlooking the Ebro Valley as a testament to Castile's frontier defenses.
