Castle of Torrelobatón
Torrelobatón, Spain, Spain
Castle of Torrelobatón is one of Spain's best-preserved 15th-century fortresses, located on a hilltop in Torrelobatón village, Valladolid province, Castilla y León.
Built starting in 1406 by Alfonso Enríquez, Admiral of Castile, it features a square ground plan with circular corner turrets, a massive keep tower protected by eight smaller turrets on brackets, thick limestone ashlar walls, and remnants of an outer enceinte and moat.
Central to the 1520-1521 Revolt of the Comuneros against Charles V, where Juan de Padilla made his last stand before defeat, it now offers guided tours highlighting its seigneurial power and medieval intimidation design.
