Verified Castle Pecka

Pecka, Czechia, Czech Republic (Czechia)

Pecka Castle in Czechia dates back to the early 13th century and was originally a Gothic fortress that saw the growth of a town below it by the early 14th century.

It was rebuilt in the late 16th century into a Renaissance residence and was famously owned by Kryštof Harant, a Renaissance intellectual known for his travels, writing, and music. The castle burned down in 1830 and was left in ruins, but today it is known for its scenic location offering views of the nearby Krkonoše Mountains.

Visitors can tour reconstructed parts of the castle including the Harant Palace, which features period interiors, a torture chamber with historic instruments, a Renaissance fireplace, and a deep well. The castle’s history, cultural exhibits, and picturesque surroundings make it a notable heritage site in the region.
