Castle Příběnice is one of the most important medieval castle ruins in South Bohemia, located near Malšice on a rocky promontory surrounded by a bend of the Lužnice River.

It was built in the first half of the 13th century by the powerful Vítkovci family and became a major administrative and military center of the region. The castle played a significant role during the Hussite Wars. It was used by the Rožmberk family as a stronghold and prison, but was captured by Hussite forces in 1420.

After peace was restored, an agreement led to the deliberate demolition of both Příběnice and the nearby Příběničky Castle in 1437 to prevent their future military use. Today, visitors can explore the atmospheric ruins, including parts of an octagonal tower and other surviving structures. The site is protected as a cultural monument and is valued for its dramatic riverside setting and its importance in Czech medieval history.
