Castle Puñonrostro
Torrejón de Velasco, Spain, Spain
Castle Puñonrostro, also known as the Castle of Torrejón de Velasco, is a 15th-century medieval fortress located at the entrance of Torrejón de Velasco in Spain's Community of Madrid.
Likely initiated around 1432 by Bishop Gutierre Gómez de Toledo on earlier fortifications, with its homage tower dated to 1465, it passed to the Arias Dávila family, elevated to the County of Puñonrostro by Charles I in 1523 for their loyalty during the Comuneros Revolt.
The robust masonry structure, featuring 1.5-meter-thick walls rising 13 meters over a solid plinth, served as a noble residence hosting Emperor Charles V and Francis I in 1526, a prison for court notables like Antonio Pérez in the 16th century, a soap factory in the 18th century, and suffered devastation during the Peninsular War before recent multi-phase restorations stabilized its ruins for cultural preservation.
