Templštejn is a dramatic medieval castle ruin located on a rocky ridge above the Jihlava River near the village of Jamolice in South Moravia.

The castle was founded by the Knights Templar in the late 13th century, likely between 1281 and 1298, and its name derives from the German “Tempelstein,” meaning “Temple Stone.” After the dissolution of the Templar Order in 1312, the castle passed through the hands of several noble families and was gradually expanded.

Although it was considered a strong fortress, it was eventually abandoned, probably after a major fire in the 16th century, and fell into ruin. Today, Templštejn is a protected historic monument and a popular destination for hikers and history enthusiasts. Visitors can explore the remains of its walls, gates, and palace structures while enjoying impressive views of the wooded Jihlava River valley and the surrounding countryside.
