Castlebaldwin Fortified House, near the village of Castlebaldwin in County Sligo, is a well-preserved 17th-century fortified residence that was built during a period when traditional medieval tower houses were giving way to more comfortable homes while still retaining defensive features. The structure includes gun slits, a machicolation above the entrance for protection, and a distinctive square tower, reflecting the security concerns of the time. Constructed around 1625, the stone building stands in a rural landscape and is considered an important example of Irish fortified domestic architecture. Its walls were reportedly built using stone taken from a nearby nunnery. Today, it is recognized as a National Monument and remains a notable historic landmark in the area. The site is also close to the famous Carrowkeel Passage Tombs, making it part of a region rich in archaeological and historical heritage.
