Castleknock Castle is a ruined Norman castle located in the suburb of Castleknock, about 8 km west of Dublin city centre. Built in the late 12th century by the Norman knight Hugh Tyrrel, it was strategically positioned on a hill overlooking the route into Dublin and played an important role in the region's medieval history. The castle was involved in several historical conflicts, including the campaign of Edward Bruce in 1317, when it was briefly captured and used as a military headquarters. During the wars of the 17th century, the fortress suffered extensive damage and was eventually left in ruins. Today, the remains of Castleknock Castle stand within the grounds of St. Vincent’s Castleknock College.
