Castlemary, commonly known as Castle Mary, is a historic estate near Cloyne in County Cork, Ireland. The site combines the remains of a medieval tower house with a larger country house that was expanded during the 18th and 19th centuries into a Gothic-style castle, reflecting changing architectural tastes over time. The estate was closely associated with the Longfield family, who developed it into an impressive residence with views over the surrounding countryside and Cork Harbour. Elements of the original medieval stronghold were incorporated into the later building, preserving links to its earlier history. Castle Mary suffered significant damage when it was burned during the Irish War of Independence in 1920 and was never fully restored. Today, it survives as a picturesque ruin, with its exposed walls and architectural features providing insight into several centuries of Irish history and country-house design.
