Castlewrixon is a small rural townland in County Cork, in the north of the county near Ballyhea and Charleville, within the historic barony of Orrery and Kilmore. It covers a relatively small area of about 52 hectares and is surrounded by agricultural countryside. The area is notable for its historical heritage. Records indicate the presence of a medieval castle site, sometimes associated with Castle Dod, although little or no visible remains survive today. Archaeological evidence and historical maps suggest that a significant fortified structure once stood in the area. Castlewrixon is also home to Castle Wrixon, an elegant late 18th century country house built around 1780. The residence is recognized for its architectural importance and remains a notable landmark in the locality. In addition, the townland contains the remains of an early medieval ringfort, reflecting the long history of settlement in the region. These features make Castlewrixon a quiet but historically interesting part of rural County Cork, showcasing layers of Irish heritage from the early medieval period through the Georgian era.
