Château de Lysá nad Labem
Lysá nad Labem, Czechia, Czech Republic (Czechia)
Château de Lysá nad Labem is a striking Renaissance chateau in the town of Lysá nad Labem, Czechia, originally built as a 13th-century Gothic castle owned by Czech queens until the Luxembourgs.
Damaged during the Hussite Wars, it was rebuilt in late Gothic style by the Smiřický family, then transformed into Renaissance form after a fire under Emperor Ferdinand I, who used it as a hunting lodge.
Count František Antonín Špork further enhanced it in the Baroque era with an adjacent monastery, English park blending French formal gardens, and sculptures by Matthias Braun, creating a protected cultural landscape along the Labe River. Today it houses municipal offices and events amid its sgraffito-decorated facades and scenic grounds 35 km east of Prague.
