Chateau Krnov
Krnov, Czechia, Czech Republic (Czechia)
Chateau Krnov is a historic Renaissance château in the center of Krnov, built between 1531 and 1535 on the site of an older medieval castle.
It was commissioned by George of Brandenburg-Ansbach from the Hohenzollern family and became one of the most important noble residences in the region of Silesia. The château originally served both residential and defensive purposes, with fortifications, administrative buildings, stables, and a large courtyard used for events such as knightly tournaments.
After the Hohenzollerns lost the estate in 1622, it passed to the Liechtenstein family. A major fire in 1779 destroyed much of its interior, and it was never again used as a princely residence. Today, Chateau Krnov is valued for its architectural heritage, especially its Renaissance courtyard and decorative sgraffito artwork.
