Verified Chateau Stekník

Zálužice, Czechia, Czech Republic (Czechia)

Chateau Stekník is an elegant Rococo château located in the village of Stekník, part of Zálužice, near the historic hop-growing town of Žatec in northwestern Czechia.

Originally built as a Baroque residence in 1681, it was extensively remodeled in the second half of the 18th century, gaining the Rococo appearance for which it is famous today. The château is renowned for its richly decorated interiors, including frescoes, stucco ornamentation, a chapel, and a grand ceremonial hall.

It is also surrounded by distinctive Italian-style terraced gardens overlooking the Ohře River valley and the surrounding hop-growing landscape. Stekník is considered one of the finest Rococo monuments in Bohemia. Since 2023, it has been included in the UNESCO World Heritage site “Žatec and the Landscape of Saaz Hops,” recognizing its close connection to the region’s centuries-old hop cultivation tradition.

Today, the château is managed by the National Heritage Institute and is open to visitors, offering tours of its historic rooms, gardens, and exhibitions that explore both the building’s history and the cultural heritage of the Žatec hop-growing region.
