Verified Chateau Veleslavín

Prague, Czechia, Czech Republic (Czechia)

Chateau Veleslavín is a Baroque château in Prague’s Veleslavín district, built between about 1730 and 1750 on the site of an earlier estate associated with the nearby Břevnov Monastery.

The building is believed to have been designed by the renowned Baroque architect Kilián Ignác Dientzenhofer and is recognized as a protected cultural monument. Over the centuries, the château served various roles, but it became especially well known in the early 20th century when doctors Leo Kosák and Oskar Fischer transformed it into a respected private sanatorium for neurological and pulmonary patients.

Several notable figures, including members of the Masaryk family, were connected with the facility. Today, the château remains an important historical landmark reflecting Prague’s Baroque heritage. Although it is not regularly open to the public and has undergone periods of neglect, it continues to attract interest because of its architecture, long history, and cultural significance.
