Cifuentes Castle
Cifuentes, Spain, Spain
Cifuentes Castle overlooks the town of Cifuentes in Guadalajara province, Castilla-La Mancha, Spain, as a 14th-century fortress built by the famous nobleman and writer Don Juan Manuel starting in 1324 atop earlier Arab foundations.
Featuring a square plan with five towers—circular, square, and a distinctive pentagonal keep—plus a courtyard, rib-vaulted entry with his coat of arms (winged arms holding swords and lions), and Mudéjar brick elements, it served as both military stronghold and noble residence during frontier conflicts.
Owned by his heirs for centuries before municipal acquisition, ongoing restorations preserve its medieval character amid the town's famed "cien fuentes" springs that feed the local river.
