Čkyně is a small municipality and village located in the Prachatice District within the South Bohemian Region of the Czech Republic.
It has a population of about 1,600 residents and includes several smaller parts such as Dolany, Horosedly, and Onšovice. Geographically, Čkyně lies in the Bohemian Forest Foothills around 17 kilometers west of Prachatice and 48 kilometers west of České Budějovice, with its highest nearby point being Vacovický vrch hill at 823 meters above sea level. The Volyňka River flows through the area, enhancing its natural landscape.
The village has a rich history dating back to its first written mention in 1243 during the reign of King Wenceslaus I, and was promoted to a market town in 1537 by Emperor Ferdinand I, though it lost this status later. Čkyně is accessible by the main I/23 road and the Strakonice–Volary railway line, facilitating connectivity with surrounding regions.
Important local sights include the Church of Saint Mary Magdalene, built originally in the 13th century with later reconstructions, a former synagogue now converted into a museum, and a neo-Gothic castle that currently serves as the municipal office. The community maintains a balance between its historical character and modern living, contributing to the cultural and administrative fabric of the South Bohemian Region.
