Corluddy Castle is a medieval tower house located near the village of Carrigeen in County Kilkenny. Built around the 16th century, it served as a fortified residence for the Grant family, an Anglo-Norman lineage that held lands in the area for centuries before losing them during the Cromwellian conquest of Ireland. The castle rises several storeys high and was designed for both defence and domestic living, with thick stone walls, narrow windows, internal stairways, and vaulted chambers. Its elevated position overlooking the surrounding countryside helped provide security and a commanding view of the local landscape. Although now roofless, Corluddy Castle remains in relatively good condition and is an impressive example of an Irish tower house. Its association with the Grant family and its enduring medieval architecture make it an important part of County Kilkenny’s historic heritage.
