Doe Castle is a well-preserved medieval fortress located on the shores of Sheephaven Bay near Creeslough in County Donegal, Ireland. Built in the early 15th century, it served as the stronghold of the MacSweeney (Mac Suibhne) clan for nearly 200 years and played an important role in the history of northwest Ireland. The castle stands on a small peninsula surrounded by water on three sides, with a defensive moat on the fourth, giving it a striking and strategic setting. The structure features a four-storey tower house enclosed by protective walls and reflects architectural influences from Scottish tower houses. Over the centuries, it witnessed significant historical events, including links to survivors of the Spanish Armada and the era of Red Hugh O'Donnell. Today, Doe Castle is a national monument managed by the Irish state, and visitors can explore its scenic grounds while enjoying views of the bay and surrounding countryside.
